“Big Character” – Bielsa Praises Brave Leeds Youngster As He Looks To Get Himself Back On Track

|

With former West Bromwich Albion Academy graduate Tyler Roberts continuing his comeback from injury and his search for top form again, in the midweek Championship clash between Leeds United and Preston North End, he made his fifth appearance of the season following his lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The 20-year-old impressed plenty with his performances in the 2018/19 campaign as he helped fill the gaps left in attack as injuries hit Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe, and although he’s yet to start a game for manager Marcelo Bielsa, in this week’s press conference ahead of Saturday’s Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday, our Argentine gaffer certainly had words of praise for the Welsh international.

Quoted by Leeds Live, Bielsa clearly thought that with his growing fitness levels now, he would again prove to be key to our attacking play as the season progresses.

“Tyler is a player who likes being with the ball. He has a big character because he wants the ball. He always receives the ball in one place where it’s more probable that he’ll lose it than keep it. Most of the teams in front of the box have more than four players. Two centre-backs, two or three midfielders. So the player who asks for the ball there, he is probably going to lose it. So to ask for the ball there you have to have talent and character. Personality. And to give continuity to offensive play, this is necessary.”

The young lad has plenty of development still to do, but an additional creative and potential goalscoring threat can only suit us as we continue to look for improvements after a more mixed start to the campaign.
